This is a screenplay about my adopted son and the obstacles we faced together. I finally wrote it because people were amazed with its verbal accounting. It is a story of the inherent ugliness in some, but also the inherent kindness of others. Above all, it is a story about instilling hope into a lost boy.
I wrote a short story over a weekend and sent it out to a few magazines. I received a response from Men's Health, the largest Men's magazine in the world. Due to my short story, they interviewed my son, Mike Washlow, for an article in their magazine.

THE LENGTH OF OUR STAIRCASE is a story about Rose, a woman who is determined to fulfill her late mothers wish, to adopt an older boy who needs a home. It is both heart-breaking and heart-warming as Rose adopts the child and then faces years of hardships and conflicts due to her son’s abusive past. One problem leads to another and Rose finds that her life now has a purpose, to succeed in creating a happy life for her son. The theme is comparable to ME BEFORE YOU, where two unlikely people form a relationship in a difficult situation. You will find yourself on the edge of your seat, with a tear in your eye, hoping and praying that Rose and her new son finally get a break and find happiness. This story is about every mother who fought for their child in any difficult situation.
